Natural England is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced contractor with a demonstrable track record of working on designated sites, specifically Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Areas of Conservation (SAC).
The appointed contractor will be responsible for the clearance of approximately 2.1 hectares (Gross)of light to mature scrub across three defined work areas within Goss Moor National Nature Reserve.
Clearance operations may be undertaken using a combination of mechanical methods (e.g. tree shears/snips) and manual techniques.
All arisings will be disposed of via controlled in-situ burning.
In addition, chemical stump treatment will be required for all cut stumps exceeding 2 inches in diameter to prevent regrowth.
The programme of works is scheduled to commence in late August 2026, with completion targeted for late September 2026.
This contract forms part of a wider habitat management programme aimed at removing scrub and semi-mature tree encroachment from priority wetland habitats.
There is potential for scope expansion within the same area, subject to the successful delivery of the initial works and adherence to programme timelines.
Timely completion will be a key performance indicator, and strong delivery against deadlines may result in the allocation of additional clearance areas under this contract.
