The brief

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is the UK's National Measurement Institute and is a world-leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate measurement standards, science, and technology available.

The equipment is required for the calibration of radiation hazard probes and field strength sensors and will replace our 40 GHz Agilent E8257D that has recently failed.

The new signal generator will have a wider frequency range, so that we can use it with our new waveguide system, up to 50 GHz and have the ability to connect to an external pulse generator, to provide a pulsed frequency to our CW amplifiers.

The signal generator needs to have a stable and accurate timebase, with a high output power to drive our 40 to 50 GHz amplifier.

It will need to be remotely controlled over our current GPIB control unit on the measurement trolley and also have an ethernet connection, so in the future, we can switch to controlling it via this method.

The output connector needs to be on the rear of the unit and be 2.4mm (female).
