The brief

The National Archives has a strategic commitment to providing a vibrant, welcoming, learning environment that attracts a wider and more diverse audience.

We seek to do this by developing our onsite and online service delivery, and through the delivery of new services, particularly in the form of events and planned programmes of activity, for both academic and casual users.

We are seeking to make The National Archives a destination in its own right, and to make the environment more distinctive and identifiable, and in so doing, widen awareness and appreciation of The National Archives and the value of archives to individuals as well as society as a whole.

We have a full master plan to transform our public spaces to support our ambitions to grow and diversify our audience groups through facilitated public engagement, and began to deliver discrete elements of the master plan, in a phased approach, in 2015/16.

The National Archives now wishes to select a design partner and architect to further develop the designs and to complete the transformation of public space at its Kew site.

Whilst we wish to appoint a design partner in May 2017, the project start date and overall timeframe is subject to The National Archives successfully securing external funding.

The overall construction cost estimate is assessed to be circa. £8,508,000.

The National Archives will shortlist a maximum of 5 potential suppliers to be invited to tender, subsequent to the evaluation of the Standard Selection Questionnaires received.

Please submit your completed Standard Selection Questionnaire to procurement@nationalarchives.gsi.gov.uk by 5pm on March 14th, 2017.
