The brief

The Met Office owns and operates a network of 17 in-house designed, C-band weather radars.

Together these are a critical Met Office observing network, running 24/7 making near realtime measurements of precipitation in the atmosphere.

We have identified a potential requirement to purchase up to four additional transmitters for its network.

At this stage, our timescales as to any possible procurement activity are not fixed.

In light of this, the Met Office is currently looking for informal expressions of interest from organisations that may be able to support us with our potential requirements.

We want to get a better understanding of the typical capabilities, specifications and performance levels of weather radar transmitters currently available on the market.

Further information can be obtained by contacting adam.rossiter@metoffice.gov.uk, who will be able to provide you with: (a) further detail on our potential future needs; (b) instructions on how to submit an informal expression of interest and provide some information to the Met Office about your capabilities in meeting our potential requirements.

Please note: this notice is an information gathering exercise rather than a call for competition, and therefore publication or response does not commit the Met Office or any respondents to a future procurement, nor provide any process exemptions or preferential treatment to any parties expressing an interest.

The Met Office will not be liable for costs incurred by any interested party in participating in this exercise.
