Review of National Mapping Programme for London and Survey of an Area within Bromley and Croydon Boroughs The aim of the project is to improve the GLHER evidence base for archaeological advice in Greater London thereby enabling risk to be recognised and assessed earlier in the development consent process, providing a strategic framework for future enhancement.
The project will bring together existing aerial photographic mapping for London highlighting the potential to professional, academic, and amateur researchers of what, archaeologically-speaking, is a sizeable but under-used resource – historic aerial photographs of sub-urban as well as rural and metropolitan areas of Greater London (including those held by the Historic England Archives, Swindon).
Extensive lidar archives have recently been made available via the internet.
Lidar material will be identified but only assessed for its potential to deliver significant new archaeological information.
The project will enable the production of a report of the mapped evidence and the identification of significant new data through the use of historic aerial photographs and the potential represented by lidar to the study of sub-urban and rural areas, thus feeding directly into the planning and development casework, including the review of Archaeological Priority Areas.
The project will examine the value of aerial photographs to studies and projects of areas that have been developed since the 1920s which currently make little or no use of this resource.
PLEASE NOTE THE RETURN DATE FOR THIS PROJECT IS 23RD OCTOBER 2015 12:00
