The brief

This PIN is to inform the supply chain that Open Nuclear with the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking technology which will remotely characterise a variety of containers that contain uranium bearing residues and wastes and that the technology will determine the physical, chemical and isotropic composition of the container contents.

Interested technology providers should complete and submit an Open Nuclear application via the Open Nuclear website (https://opennuclear.nnlinnovation.wazoku.com).

The challenge is open to any organisation who feel they can meet the technical requirements.

The closing date for applications will be the 26 March 2024.

Interested organisations should note that the issue of this PIN may not result in a full procurement exercise being conducted.

The outcome of the Open Nuclear challenge will determine whether a full procurement exercise will follow.

We would therefore encourage any organisation that has the capability, knowledge and experience in long-term environmental monitoring and sensors to respond to this PIN and visit the Open Nuclear website for further information on this Open Nuclear challenge.

If Open Nuclear progresses to a future procurement opportunity for a technology that can remotely characterise the container contents, the learning gathered from the Open Nuclear technology study may be shared with all potential suppliers, noting that commercially sensitive information will not be included.
