Figure 1 below illustrates the ~ 3km stretch of river that has been straightened and canalised due to flood protection purposes.
This project forms part of EU LIFE WADER.
The project is being led by Natural England with the Environment Agency (EA), the Tweed Forum and Newcastle University as partners.
The 5 key aims and actions of LIFE WADER are improved water quality, improved invasive control, reduced opportunistic macro algae, reduced disturbance and improved cross boarder working within the LIFE WADER project area.
The EA will be leading on the improved water quality action with river restoration at Harehope playing a key role.
