000656 Supply of Boxes and Enclosures for British Library Materials
In order to maintain a high level of access to as many of the collections as possible, the library is now seeking to appoint external suppliers skilled in the conservation treatments of library collections.
Suppliers must be able to offer and maintain a high-quality, cost-effective service specifically for the supply of boxes and enclosures.
Suppliers should note that the British Library operates a dual site in the North of England (Yorkshire) and the South (London).
This contract is relevant to the London site unless otherwise indicated.
Responses to this briefing note must demonstrate a clear understanding of the requirements below and show how supplier’s best intend to meet them.
Treatments may not be contracted out to a third party.
All work will be undertaken at the British Library premises at St Pancras.Suppliers must be able to demonstrate at the outset that they have experience in the safe handling of heritage collection materials in a range of formats and conditions.
Collection items for boxing/enclosure may be bound or loose leaf.
Collection items may be in poor or fragile condition.
Suppliers must measure items for boxing/enclosure at the British Library (no collection items will be sent to the supplier’s own premises) Suppliers must fit boxes/enclosures at the British Library.
Suppliers must demonstrate an appreciation of the differing needs of items in different formats and conditions in their handling and treatment.
Suppliers must demonstrate a high level of professional skills.
This contract includes and suppliers must demonstrate experience / skills in The supply of drop-back boxes in full buckram.
The supply of flap cases in full buckram.
The contract is a non-exclusive ad hoc call off agreement and will be for an initial period of twelve months, commencing 1st April 2017, and subject to extension on an annual basis at the sole discretion of the British Library for a further period of up to three additional years.
