The brief

In 2019/2020 the Trust completed its first Haven Suite at the RVI which is an end of life facility to provide a 'haven' for the families, friends and carers of patients who are receiving palliative care.

At the planning stage of this project, it was recognised that a Haven Suite would be required at the RVI and Freeman sites, to date only the RVI Haven has been delivered.

The proposal for a Freeman Hospital Haven has been developed over the subsequent years following the completion of the RVI space.

The proposal to deliver two Haven Suites across both sites is fundamental in achieving the standard set out in the National Audit of Care and End of Life (NACEL), that relatives and carers of patients who are receiving end of life care can access dedicated spaces for rest, refreshment and privacy.

This project aims to ensure that relatives are adequately supported and have a peaceful space away from the ward environment.

The room will have all of the comforts, including a sofa, shower room, sitting area and a kitchen.
