The brief

In BFI's five-year plan, Film Forever 2012-17, BFI set out its commitment to support British Film and to contribute to creating a sustainable UK film industry.

BFI's five-year plan, BFI2022 builds on Film Forever and helps to shape the BFI's next chapter for film, television, animation and the moving image through its key objectives; building audiences, learning and skills, and developing talent with an emphasis on diversity across all our activities.

BFI has a dedicated National Lottery-funded Research and Statistics Fund through which it commissions research and purchases data for the industry and public good.

Through the Fund we produce a range of independent and authoritative data and statistics across the film and screen sector value chain.

The external advisory group to the Research and Statistics Fund supports the requirement for new research to 'map' the size, value and importance of the UK's animation sector in order for the sector to be better understood by investors and policy makers.

This research project has a steering group comprised of representatives from the animation industry, relevant trade bodies and the BFI.

BFI is seeking a supplier to provide a robust and rigorous articulation of the sector's economic value, the number and location of animation companies and the number and type of roles in which people are employed - as well as an articulation of the funding models and length of time to both make an monetize content - are required in order for the sector to be better understood by investors, decision-makers and policy makers.
