The brief

The National Army Museum wishes to commission a sculpture/installation measuring no more that 600mm (D) x 600mm (W) x 2000(H) The work should reflect that; • The development of stainless steel was a result of the arms race prior to the First World War. • The discovery was in fact the by-product of a failed attempt to produce a new alloy for making weapons. • Today stainless steel is used in a myriad of different domestic settings. • We wish the work to draw the link between the intended use and what happens today. • The work must be self-supporting and have no sharp edges likely to cause injury to visitors. • The Museum invites artists/practioner to submit an outline proposal and a CV to the Museum before the 8th July 2016 The successful candidate will be responsible for: 1.) The Design, sourcing/procurement or fabrication of the piece.

2.) Delivery to the Museum in Chelsea.

3.) Positioning in pre-designated position within the galleries.

4.) It is anticipated that the installation will take place in December 2016 however, following appointment, the company will be required to liaise with NAM to ensure the installation is sequenced with other on-site building work and fit out activities.

Expressions of interest in this work are requested from suitably qualified and experienced contractors by 8/07/2016 after which time NAM will provide an Invitation to Tender document with additional information.
