Supply of AV design services for Clifford's Tower re-development project
This sits in the lower-middle of the Recreation, Culture & Sport band — a mid-scale opportunity. Based on 3,522 valued Recreation, Culture & Sport tenders in our corpus.
Clifford’s Tower is an iconic York attraction, located within the historic castle area, next to the Eye of York and the Castle Museum.
York has positioned itself as a year-round visitor attraction, welcoming circa eight million tourists per annum.
Clifford’s Tower is English Heritage’s second highest income generator in the North, after Whitby Abbey, and attracts 150k visitors a year, making it amongst our top ten sites from a visitor volume perspective.
This invitation to tender is regarding the AV interpretation elements of a major project with the ambitious aim of creating an updated attraction within the tower.
The project includes a larger deck at roof level and walkways within the tower that provide increased access to views and allow people to enter first floor areas which are currently inaccessible.
Together with this, the scheme includes an entirely new visitor building, containing an exhibition, to be constructed within an excavated section of the foot of the castle mound.
The scheme creates the opportunity to significantly improve the interpretation at the Tower making the site a more attractive proposition to potential visitors, increasing satisfaction and dwell time.
We have already contracted an architect design team and the overall design has recently received planning permission.
The current programme will see the new visitor experience open to the public in late autumn 2017.
