The brief

With the allocation of funding from EPSRC, Newcastle University would like to purchase a combined Underwater and above water Motion Tracking system.

This system has a clear and demonstrable ability to accurately track and measure motions of any moving object or vehicle in 6 degrees of freedom (dof), underwater.

The combined Underwater and above water Motion Tracking system will be housed in the School of Engineering's Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory.

The objectives of the equipment are summarised as follows: • To accurately track and measure the motion of underwater vehicles in 6 dof in order to validate the control and navigation systems setup in the school's underwater vehicles. • To investigate and visualise the seakeeping of offshore floating or underwater renewable infrastructure as well as offshore risers.

This is crucial for the operation and maintenance prediction of those infrastructure as we move towards increasing the presence and use of them in the production of green energy.

Marine Offshore & Subsea Technology have an existing above water system using Qualisys Oqus cameras which the underwater system will link to, and therefore any system offered must be compatible with the existing system.

The scope of this contract is for the supply, delivery and help in installation of the equipment detailed in ITT document to the University, with after-sales support and 12 months warranty and maintenance.
