The University of Warwick has a requirement to purchase a new roll-to-roll coater and dryer as part of the recently announced UK National Battery Materials Scale-up Facility called Advanced Battery Materials Industrialisation Centre (AMBIC) https://iuk.ktn-uk.org/news/delivering-the-uks-national-battery-materials-scale-up-facility/.

The coater will designed to process the wide range of battery materials (chemistry/particle size/morphology) produced by the centre and mixed at a scale of 1L, 5L or 10L (or multiples) and produce electrodes suitable for a range of cell formats including pouch (70x50 mm, 300x100 mm) and intermittent coated materials for multi-tabbed cylindrical cells (21700 and 46XX) for high energy (high coat weight) and high power (low coat weight) applications producing 10s or 100s of meters of single and double sided coatings.

Machine automation is required for coating width and patch alignment between top and bottom coatings for produce high quality and yield.

The coater where possible should have the flexibility and space protected to be upgraded in the future to meet industry processing (coating/drying), metrology, digitalisation and control for novel processing of next generation advanced battery materials.

The offering should be designed to allow the processing of multiple different small mixes e.g.

1L per day by ease of cleaning of parts or duplication of parts for high efficiency and to avoid cross-contamination for the different materials processes.
