The brief

The Government and the Authority want all children to have the best start in life and the on-going support that they and their families need to fulfill their potential and maximise their well-being.

Children with a disability are less likely to achieve their potential in a range of areas as compared to their non-disabled peers.

Improving their outcomes, allowing them to benefit from equality of opportunity and increasing their involvement and inclusion in society and mainstream services will reduce social inequality and allow communities to benefit from the contribution that disabled children and their families can make; harnessing their talent and fostering tolerance, diversity and difference.

The Authority wants to work in partnership with children and young people; their parents and carers; the Authority's statutory and non-statutory partners and the provider market to deliver a higher volume of high quality, diverse and creative support for children with a disability.

This will focus on delivering improved outcomes, improving the wellbeing of service users and providing a respite opportunity for carers.
