The brief

HEE Midlands & East of England provides training for foundation dentists (FD) according to the national specification.

The training requires the delivery of hands-on elements supported by appropriate didactic and clinical instruction and guidance.

HEE is expecting to adopt Digital First strategy to professional training and development.

The FD programme wish to procure a suite of restorative elements to prepare the FDs for the hands-on sessions that, equally is: • Covid secure if outbreaks result in limited access to 'phantom head' suites. • Enables FDs to experience greater hands-on teaching with their Educational Supervisors (ES) and allow for structured assessment and feedback in the dental practice • Developing the skills of the FD in self-assessing their clinical skills.

HEE M&E is looking to engage with Contractors who can deliver solution(s) that meet the organisational objectives.

The selected solutions must be scalable and extensible to meet the future needs of the vision as a FD training provider that provides • Safe, effective solutions. • Improve the collaboration in the placements. • Create a consistent programme which can be managed by a single Training Programme Director (TPD) allowing the remaining TPDs to focus on the management of a reduced portfolio of clinical sessions in locations remote from the placement practices.

The solution will deliver training that is regarded professionally as best practice, evidence-based care and supporting future ways of working: better for patients, FD, environment and better utilisation of the HEE pound.

HEE M&E requires that any proposed solution(s), works seamlessly together with the existing systems and partner organisations where clinical hands-on sessions are supported in a 'phantom head' room.

We welcome expressions of interest in delivering this innovative programme to the foundation dental programme.

It is our intention to hold a market engagement event on the afternoon of the of 18th October 2021 between 1 - 4pm to discuss our plans and consult with parties interested in potentially bidding to become the provider.

The event will take the form of an on-line presentation organised through MS Teams outlining our current thinking, the procurement process we anticipate following, general discussion, and requests for information.

The process will also provide an opportunity to network with others providing education and training in this field.

HEE will use the opportunity to gather intelligence from providers which may influence and inform the development of the final tender.
