Public health practitioners are those people in the public health workforce who spend much or all of their time in public health practice working at a minimum of level 5 or equivalent of the PHSKF (Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework).
They may work across the full breadth of public health from health improvement and health protection, to health information, community development, and nutrition, in a wide range of settings from local government and the NHS to the voluntary, and private sector.
Regulation and registration of the workforce provides assurances to the employer and the public of the practitioner’s competencies along with supporting the individual to gain formal recognition within a profession, supporting career development.
The Public Health Practitioner (PHP) programme is a professional development programme which allows individuals working in public health to become a registered Practitioner with the UKPHR.
