Sefton Council is the governing body for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, one of the five Metropolitan Boroughs of Merseyside.
The borough consists of a coastal strip of land on the Irish Sea, and extends from Bootle in the south, to Southport in the north and in the south-east, extending inland to Maghull.
The district is bounded by Liverpool to the south, Knowsley to the south-east and West Lancashire to the east.
Sefton Council is seeking to appoint a contractor who will develop the design and undertake the construction of a scheme to introduced two new slip roads at junction 1 of the M58.
It is proposed that the works will be procured on a Design and Build basis using the NEC3 Engineering and Construction Form of Contract with Early Contractor Involvement Clauses.
The existing grade separated junction enables movements onto the M58 northbound carriageway and movements off the M58 southbound carriageway.
The proposed scheme will improve the junction by providing additional slip lane facilities to accommodate all possible traffic movements.
It will support commercial and residential development in Maghull, increasing employment and facilitating new, more accessible development The project is funded from the Transport Plan for Growth allocation to the Liverpool City Region.
A preferred option has been agreed for the scheme and a Major Business Case has been submitted and appraised.
Formal approval for the funding is anticipated in June or July 2016.
The Council will enter into a formal agreement with Highways England to permit the works to be undertaken.
The scheme is also subject to a Planning Application and land is required to facilitate the permanent and associated temporary works along with any site access requirements.
