The work is to be undertaken in accordance with the SBRI application 61067-444228 part 8 submitted to and held by Innovate UK for the Fuels and Lubricants programme.
Develop a contact mode instrument to measure critical parameters of surface morphology which determine drag on military aircraft surfaces.
The key deliverables of the project are as follows: 1.
Establish representative surfaces to be found on MOD aircraft and establish an experimental optical analysis rig.
2.
Explore approaches and algorithms, down select candidates and develop to a stage where a prototype instrument can be specified.
3.
Design, manufacture and validate a prototype on laboratory samples representative of military aircraft surfaces.
4.
Validate laboratory results by testing on static aircraft.
5.
Deliver a final Phase 1 report.
