Invitation to Tender for Open Space Assessment

1.6 Chesterfield Borough has numerous open spaces both private and public from private gardens, canals and open water to public parks and playing pitches.

The current Parks and Open Spaces Strategy (POSS) identified 509.7ha of publically accessible open space and 4.95ha per 1000 people, yet there is more in the Borough including allotments and green corridors and also informal public open spaces under 0.3ha in size, that are not covered by the existing strategy.

The POSS has been supplemented more recently (2016) by an audit of play areas that identified 78 equipped sites totalling an area of 24.7ha.

These open spaces are protected by a presumption against development in the adopted Chesterfield Local Plan: Core Strategy (adopted July 2013).
