11 kV Substation Construction and Infrastructure Works
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) is an Inner London borough with royal status.
It is the smallest borough in London and the second smallest district in England; it is one of the most densely populated administrative regions in the United Kingdom.
Following engagement with UK Power Networks (UKPN) for their services in providing a 3.8MVA (11kV) ring-main supply, RBKC will be constructing their own substation, along with transformer, associated high-voltage and low-voltage switchgear.
This project will require both civil and building works to install ductworks and sub-main cabling to the required final service heads.
The new power supply will be serving two individual LV sub-main supplies as well as offering a level of future resilience in the councils move towards our net carbon zero Carbon (NZT) target.
The contractor will be required to: - Consult with UKPN to align RBKC's programmed works for the substation construction with UKPN's new 11kV infrastructure. - Submit a design proposal which meets an agreed specification for the substation construction including all electrical and building works in connection. - Procure all materials and sub-contract services required for the project, again meeting the specification provided by RBKC. - Have all construction works completed in a timely manner, within the agreed timeframe and to a high standard of workmanship.
The 11kV supply works will be procured directly from UKPN by RBKC and fall outside of the scope of works for this project.
The contractor will need to hold National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) accreditation as an Independent Connection Provider (ICP) and must be registered on the UKPN approved contractor scheme for ICPs.
The Council is ideally seeking to engage with a provider with relevant qualification and experience to discuss what this service/work may look like.
