The brief

This is a 2-year intervention for those children and families who may be complex, that are overweight, obese or with 2 or more co-morbidities.

Specialist support will be offered for those with lower levels of motivation to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to manage their health and wellbeing, whilst increasing their ability to access and utilize other offers of support across the community.

A Clinical Nurse specialist and the team of Psychotherapists will work in conjunction with a host of partners who may include Social Care, Community Health, School Nurses, Early Help, Public Health, Dieticians, and staff at the Acute trust such as Paediatricians.

This new Children's Weight management/Psychotherapy service will consider the whole family in addressing the existing issues and encourages proactive prevention, management or improvement of weight and health issues.

It will be a non-judgmental approach that is based on strong communication and negotiation skills, that support personal choice and positive risk taking, assesses potential consequences and ensures that families can feel supported in making challenging lifestyle behaviour changes.
