Research on Data quality of Life Cycle Assessments of steel, cement and concrete products
This project will compare the methodology, outputs and data quality of different Life Cycle Assessment and Inventory methodologies and standards widely used for construction products, particularly iron, steel, cement, and concrete.
The methodologies compared will include widely used international standards for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), the newly developed EU CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Methodology), and the GHG Protocol.
Expected outputs include: · Infographics with benchmarks and data quality · A tool for DESNZ use to develop life cycle assessments using different methodologies (including EU CBAM and EPDs) · Comparison of life cycle emissions using different methodologies using site and modelled data · Recommended input values and benchmark data for UK and imported products The project is expected to run from April 2024 to March 2025, and the budget is a maximum of £175k
