One of the key public health priorities agreed for Carlisle District is tackling health inequalities via the creation of fair employment, increasing employment levels, and reduction of absenteeism.
The Council has adopted a partnership approach with Carlisle City Council and Carlisle Healthy City Steering Group.
Through further engagement with a wide range of other stakeholders the partnership has agreed to progress plans for a) getting people into work, and b) supporting people in work.
Health and work is an important public health issue and evidence shows that healthier, active and engaged employees are more productive, and have lower levels of sickness absence and presenteeism, creating a business imperative to take action as well as a public health one .
Workplaces are therefore a key setting for engaging adults in activities that will improve their health and wellbeing and contribute to business productivity.
Cumbria County Council (the Council) is commissioning a Carlisle Employability and Workplace Health Service from 1st November 2017 to 31st March 2018.
