This project focuses on restoring the boating lake and improving its biodiversity as the most significant natural heritage feature in the park.

It will repair the main structure; introduce new planting, access improvements, interpretation and wetland habitats; upgrade the Boathouse to incorporate WiFi and a mobility hub and upgrade the bathing hut.

It will also enable a sustained return of boating to the lake and increase commercial resilience.

The project will adopt nature based solutions to improve the natural management and sustainability of the lake by taking account of the River Lea watercourse and catchment that feeds it.

Working with the Environment Agency, Affinity Water and partners will link with the Revitalising Chalk Rivers initiative - a UK Priority Habitat.

It will also engage with the Chilterns Chalkscapes landscape partnership project that is in development.

An extensive activity program will extend the diversity of park users, improve interpretation and increase digital resources.

By learning from previous Heritage Fund projects, activities will include public health, education, volunteering and training, skills development, regular and seasonal events.

Scope of Works Luton wishes to appoint an experienced Landscape Consultancy or individual consultants who can design and deliver the series of work packages identified within the restoration project for Wardown Park and meet National Lottery Heritage Fund requirements.

The consultant will be required to assemble a Design Team with expertise to support the project for restoration of the Boating Lake and its Natural Heritage at Wardown Park.

The consultancy will manage the project team to ensure a coordinated design response and to design and deliver the work packages to Riba Stage 4.

The consultant will be required to propose and implement a Reporting Programme in respect of the Development and Delivery phases of the projects.

All plans must be designed and delivered within the overall capital and revenue budget set for the project.
