UK Centre For Ecology & Hydrology
2 flux tower systems for upgrading the network in Wales
This is a contract result notice, not an open opportunity. Details from the official award data.
This sits in the upper-middle of the Laboratory & Precision Equipment band — a substantial contract for the sector. Based on 9,869 valued Laboratory & Precision Equipment tenders in our corpus.
2 x new eddy covariance (EC) flux station including CPEC310 H2O/CO2 infrared gas analyser (IRGA) are required to upgrade existing, lower specification stations within the growing EC network.
The Campbell Scientific Ltd. (CSL) instruments and parts are essential for enabling the continuation of comparable long-term measurements.
Additionally, and crucially, the CPEC310 systems and supporting environmental instrumentation provide the high quality data required for UKCEH science.
These systems are more autonomous systems designed specifically to minimise UKCEH staff time (e.g. field maintenance, field data capture) and T&S costs that are incurred with regular field visits.
Procuring the complete system from CSL as a single supplier lowers overall costs and ensures full compatibility of instruments, whilst providing enhanced warranty and technical support benefits (e.g. logger programming).
CSL are based within the UK, thereby reducing shipping costs, import duty and risk now that the UK has left the EU single market.
The CSL equipment is required, as opposed to other suppliers, to: Optimise technical compatibility when compared to existing UKCEH flux stations as well as global research and expertise; Improve data reliability and accuracy for consistency and data lineage across present and future UKCEH EC datasets; Ensure the new work is practical and cost-effective by using well-tested, reliable sensors, known to the team and the data users; Maintain our relationship with CSL who consistently provide high-quality service and support, thereby ensuring we deliver the highest-quality science; Maintain our relationship with a UK-based company for easier and more cost-effective procurement and maintenance of goods and services.
