The brief

Calderdale CCG is looking to procure a General Practice Improved Access service for circa 221,000 patients registered with Calderdale General Practices.

This service will be accessible by all of the patients of the 25 GP practices that are covered by NHS Calderdale CCG.

The General Practice Improved Access service will increase access and experience for patients by providing additional seamless capacity for pre-bookable and book on the day General Practice appointments, which are convenient for patients and offer shorter waits.

These appointments will include evening appointments from Monday to Friday and also during Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

NHS England has developed seven core national requirements for the delivery of Improved Access in order to bring parity to the Improved Access offer across the country and these requirements are: - Timing of Appointments - Capacity - Measurement - Advertising and ease of access - Digital - Inequalities - Effective Access to wider whole-system services The CCG is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced organisations to deliver this service.

The contract is for 5 years with the option to extend for a further 2 year period.

The Indicative contract value is expected to be £6.6m for the 5 years.

The service will commence on the 1st April 2019.

Improved Access should include the following elements: • Working at scale • Collaboration with other providers to maximise existing infrastructure, minimise set up costs and collaborative approaches to ensure clinical capacity is sufficient • Provision of pre-bookable and urgent (same day) appointments for all patients registered with a Calderdale CCG member practices • Provide a minimum additional 45 minutes consultation capacity per 1000 population. • Direct booking available to all Calderdale CCG member practices, Local Care Direct, PC • Streaming and NHS111 - other organisations may be added range of services to meet the needs of the local population as identified through patient engagement • A range of appointment types and clinical staffing • Be operational 365 days a year • Offer a service in each of the 5 localities in Calderdale (North Halifax, Lower, Valley, Upper Valley, South Halifax and Central Halifax)in line with Calderdale Cares Location of services should take into consideration: • Outcome of patient survey • Is there parking? • Are there good public transport links? • Is there access to a pharmacy during all opening hours?

If not, how far would a patient have to travel? • Is the building fully accessible for patients with additional needs? • Would existing IT infrastructure be sufficient for additional services to be run from the building? • Is there a reception area and enough clinical space/ rooms to deliver the service now and in the future?

All potential locations will be subject to agreement with the CCG prior to service delivery.
