Stockport Council (SMBC) is seeking to appoint an artist(s)/sculptor(s)/metalworker(s) to research, design and fabricate a piece of public art in memory of S.S.
STOCKPORT and its crew.
The public art must be fabricated, delivered and installed in time for the completion of TCAP Scheme 402 at Knightsbridge, Stockport (anticipated July/August 2018).
Installation will be undertaken by SMBC's Principal Contractor.
The successfully appointed artist will be required to deliver the artwork to a single agreed location and oversee the installation and provide advice and guidance accordingly.
The site forms part of a wider improvement scheme known as the Town Centre Access Plan (TCAP) and is close to the River Goyt and will be visible from the junction of Knightsbridge/Warren Street/Corporation Street/Great Portwood Street.
The public art must be both aesthetically sensitive and appropriate in its nature given the subject matter and be robust and durable and meet the Stockport Public Art Principles. .
The proposed public art and subsequent tender response and associated budget/price MUST include an accompanying information panel/lectern outlining the history of S.S.
Stockport, the final wording of which is to be agreed with Council Officers and the Chairman of the Royal Navy Association.
We require the services of an artist(s)/sculptor(s)/metalworker(s) who can clearly demonstrate that they possess the appropriate experience, skills and artistic capability to work with the Council and key stakeholders including, members of the public, Council officers and Councillors in order to ensure that the artwork is appropriate and fit for purpose.
The opportunity is open to artist(s)/sculptor(s)/metalworker(s) working with media that is suitable for creating robust/durable, permanent piece of public art that requires minimal/nil maintenance; see objectives/requirements for further details.
The artist(s)/sculptor(s)/metalworker(s) must be able to clearly demonstrate the ability to deliver and install the permanent decorative railings within the specified Contract Period in time for the completion of the TCAP 402 Scheme (anticipated July/August 2018).
