Education and Training Foundation
Rehabilitation in action: Building a Credible Prison Teaching Pipeline - Strand 2
The Foundation would like to receive proposals for the following strategy/strand of work as outlined below: To bring together 10 existing teachers/instructors and 10 ex-prisoners or individuals with personal experience of the criminal justice system with a view to develop future educators The Foundation wishes to receive joint proposals from organisations supporting people who have experienced the criminal justice system and education providers.
The education provider should identify 10 existing teachers/instructors and the partner organisation should identify 10 individuals with personal experience of the criminal justice system who you have identified as having potential to become an educator.
You should conduct an appropriate risk assessment of the participants in order to assess their suitability for progressing into teaching.
Together, we would expect you to design a programme for the learners which would result in them developing teaching skills.
This should also include opportunities for participants to work shadow your existing teacher and register for the Award in Education and Training (which you would be expected to fund through this programme).
The existing teacher would be a source of support for the learner and be the 'go to' point for questions by the learner as they proceed through the programme.
The Award in Education and Training is an introductory teaching qualification and we hope might set in motion the aspiration for learners to gain further teaching qualifications in the future.
As an incentive to your existing teachers to be involved in the programme, the Foundation will provide them with one year's membership to the Society for Education and Training (or another similarly priced Foundation offer if they already are members).
