The brief

The Forestry Commission is inviting tenders for the supply of timber harvesting thinning operations in Grizedale Forest main block and Low Dale Park.

The contract will also include scope for small scale clearfell operations as well as some skidder work and respacing of regeneration.

In some areas the thinning work required must be carried out according to the Continuous Cover Forestry approach.

It is the purpose of this tender to secure a qualified, capable and high quality contractor resource.

Our intention is to award this contract for a period of three years.

The annual production quantity is dependant on FC budget requirements and is likely to be in the range of 4,000 to 7,000 tonnes per annum.

The work will vary from first thinning of conifer crops to variable intensity thinning of large dimensioned stands.

The successful bidder is required to show how they can efficiently work stands of widely varying tree size.

There is also variation in terrain with wet areas, areas of soft ground with associated low levels of brash, areas of steep ground, and rocky outcrops will figure prominently throughout the duration of the contract.

Please express your interest in this tender and request the maps to Gráinne Devlin at the Grizedale office.
