Replacement Lighting - The Gryphon School, Sherborne

The Gryphon School is a larger than average size, over-subscribed comprehensive school in Sherborne Dorset, for pupils aged 11-18.

There are currently 1,644 students on roll including 450 in the 6th Form.

The Gryphon School converted to become an academy school on 1st August 2012.

When its predecessor school, also called The Gryphon School, was last inspected by Ofsted, it was judged to be outstanding.

Immediately prior to gaining Academy status, the school sought to take advantage of a Local Authority led energy efficiency initiative.

This initiative entailed fitting energy-saving adaptors to over 900 of the 1,856 existing lighting units.

These adaptors are now over heating resulting in significant risks and concerns regarding fire safety as a result of electrical malfunction.

Part 1 of the tender specification outlines the requirement to replace a total of 887 converted light fittings (which currently represent a fire hazard, an electrical safety hazard, and a safeguarding issue) with the installation, and make good, of new energy efficient LED lighting.

Part 2 of the tender specification outlines the requirement to replace a total of 63 defective emergency light fittings with the installation, and make good, of new energy efficient LED lighting.
