Aldershot Town Centre Uses Study
Rushmoor Borough Council has an ambitious regeneration programme which seeks to build on existing assets and create distinctive, mixed-use town centres with a high-quality housing, retail, leisure, arts, culture, tourism and employment offer.
The regeneration of Aldershot Town Centre is a corporate priority for the Council.
The Town Centre and its surroundings has a relatively strong leisure and cultural offering with the Princess Hall Theatre, Westgate Leisure Complex (cinema and restaurants, the West End Centre and EBB Stadium.
However, the town centre suffers from an over-supply of retail floorspace and relatively high vacancy rates.
In addition, the town has limited office employment which impacts daytime footfall.
To support the Council's regeneration aspirations for the town centre and to reflect changes that have occurred since the preparation of the Aldershot Town Centre Prospectus SPD (adopted 2016), the Council has committed to preparing an updated Regeneration Strategy for Aldershot Town Centre.
The Council is looking to work with consultants on this.
