Construction of a Special Exhibition Gallery
The Special Exhibition Gallery is the first project of the Science and Industry Museum masterplan.
The masterplan aims to consider the site holistically at a strategic level, improving the relationship between buildings and external spaces as well as connect visitors to the historic site, creating a destination with character.
The proposed Special Exhibitions Gallery will be located at the Museum's existing site which is located on Liverpool Road, to the west of the centre of Manchester between Castlefield, to the south, and St.
Johns Quarter to the north.
The new gallery space will be used as a showcase for temporary exhibitions shared between partner museum sites, with a number of featured exhibitions being installed and decanted per year.
The gallery space will be c.
720sqm for temporary exhibitions with robust environmental controls, supported by a front-of-house reception facility and retail space.
The scheme includes modifications to hard landscaping on the external approach to improve accessibility and address level differences on the route into the new space for visitors and museum objects.
The works contract comprises full demolition/strip out, replacement and enhancement of all building services, and all new architectural finishes.
