The brief

Old Oak Common HS2 Station - Urban Ream - Trees High Speed 2 (HS2) Old Oak Common Station is the London interchange station of the UK's second high-speed railway.

Phase 1 will run from London to the West Midlands with the subsequent Phase 2 planned to extend on to Manchester.

The station will be located on the site of the existing Old Oak Common Railway Depot, bounded by the Old Oak Common Crossrail Depot to the north, the London Overground West London line to the east, the Intercity Express Programme Depot to the south and Old Oak Common Lane to the west.

The project's scope is also to develop the external spaces of the station that include a network of road & pavement infrastructure, auxiliary buildings, and utilities spaces, along with a series of public green spaces, called the Urban Realm.

Urban Realm has been developed in consultation with the public to offer oak trees, fruit trees, cherry blossom, and acers gold planted in the parkland areas.

One of the key objectives is to offer colour across the public realm all year round.

Scope of Work: The high-level scope of works for this package includes procurement of trees for the urban realm development, including securing and growing already planted trees where applicable or planting and growing new trees if applicable.

The growing phase is expected to take place in supplier's facilities, where regular inspections and selections will take place carried out by the Contractor and their selected partners.

A preliminary tree schedule is attached to this advert and Day 1 or height is currently considered the day of the planting on site. (note: all name, forms, dimension, provenance and other criteria will be as defined in the National Plant Specification) Package responsibility will also include preparations for delivery and delivery of the trees to site, as well as placing suppliers' representatives on site as required to work together with the landscape subcontractor.

Trees will be required to be appropriately sourced to minimise risk of pathogen infestation, with preference for local or UK sourced stock where available.

A biosecurity plan will need to be put in place by the supplier and provide biosecurity passports /documentation for trees to be delivered to site.

Curating of the trees to the form and shape required to achieve the design vision of the urban realm landscape is paramount.

This includes the profile and orientation of the trees and how the canopies will interlock once planted.

As part of the curating process, the plant material will be subject to crown lifting, thinning and manipulation of apical stem growth to create distinctive tree forms and an overall compositional effect.

Expected planting season on site is the dormant season of 2027-2028, November 2027 to March 2028.
