The brief

The Saltash Tunnel is on the A38 in Cornwall.

The tunnel carries approximately 40,000 vehicles per day and provides the only strategic road link between Plymouth and South-East Cornwall.

The tunnel is 410m long is three lanes wide, bi-directional is the only tunnel in Europe if not the world to be tidal flow and connected to a Toll Bridge.

The tunnel is operated locally and is not currently identified by HE to be operated centrally by the SW Regional Operations Centre.
