The brief

The Royal Berkshire Fire Authority as the contracting authority is tendering for the supply of Occupational Health and Employee Assistance Programme Services and is seeking suitably qualified suppliers to respond.

To provide a comprehensive range of Occupational Health and Employee Assistance services through a one stop provider plus the provision of a physiotherapy and counselling service on an as used basis.

Currently provision is delivered from our premises at Caversham House in Reading.

These premises will continue to be available for at least 2 years but the successful supplier may be required to find suitable alternative premises during the period of the contract.

Occupational Health and Employee Assistance services which are to be commissioned include: • Pre-employment health screening including ophthalmic testing: • Drug and alcohol testing; • Support for health and wellbeing initiatives; • General 3 year health screening for non operational, and control staff; • Executive 3 year health screening for principal officers; • Routine health assessments/well person screening; • Emergency medical for staff exposed to toxic hazards; • Full medicals for operational and control staff every 3 years.

It should be noted that during the period of the contract there may be a requirement to increase the frequency of such medicals to every 2 years and the Contractor should provide evidence that they would have the capacity to cope with such an increase; • Full medicals for driving instructors every 3 years; • Health checks for operational and control staff every 3 years; • Annual health checks for operational staff over the age of 55 years and 6 monthly checks for firehouse training instructors; • Undertake eye tests for VDU users and visual aids used on the fire ground; • LGV medicals; • Workplace assessments; • Management referrals; • Advice on sickness management and case review including disability; • Provision of and development of health awareness programmes and delivery; • Attendance at tribunal/medical appeals; • Ill health and injury award assessment ; • Pension review; • Pre- retirement medicals; • Provision of a 24/7 telephone help line Facility and legal helpline; • Advice on rehabilitation and expediting return to work following sickness and referral to the health and fitness advisor and/or Movement Specialist as appropriate.
