The brief

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, South-West London.

The site at Kew Gardens covers over 120 hectares and includes over 40 listed buildings, has over 1 million visitors a year and one of the most diverse collections of cultivated plants in the World.

The Children's Garden (TCG) has been designed in-house to RIBA stage 3 Developed Design and shall cover approximately 12,000sqm, set around and amongst many existing mature specimen trees.

Designed to encourage interaction with horticulture and nature through play, the garden aims to be attractive for a wide age range of children.

This Tender (ITT) is for the installation works of TCG under an NEC3 Engineering and Construction Contract with Option A and design responsibility with the contractor.

The work shall include for the supply and build of several elements of: bespoke play structures and features, (developed to RIBA stage 3 in conjunction with specialist suppliers); pathways; water based play area, wooden amphitheatre, earth mounds, pathways, fencing, furniture.

Plant supply and planting shall be undertaken by the client.

The site is set within the public realm of the Botanic Gardens, with limited vehicular access, so delivery of this project shall require exceptional attention to the provision and adherence to detailed risk assessments and method statements to mitigate all health & safety risks to site operatives, the visitors to RBG Kew and RBG Kew staff.
