In September 2015 Birmingham Dental Hospital (BDH) and University of Birmingham (UoB) School of Dentistry is to relocate to a new state of the art building, predicated as a digital environment with no physical healthcare record storage.
A key component of this digital environment is the new Electronic Dental Record (EDR) System which has been implemented in the exiting Hospital and School.
Along with implementing an EDR system, digitising all patient records is a core component of the BDH digital strategy.
This is in line with national drivers such as the Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, challenging the National Health Service (NHS) is paperless by 2018.
Digitisation of patient records shall: *Improve the service user experience by allowing patient information to be accessed immediately from any location where staff and students may be working and from different device types. * Reduce staffing costs associated with the creation, distribution and access of health records. * Realise savings associated with the creation of physical health records. * Realise savings associated with the cost of physical records storage. * Provide the ability for future development to allow secure patient or third party access subject to policy and technical controls. * Reduce the quantity of Information Governance (IG) incidents concerning availability or missing records. * Improve governance controls concerning clinical audit.
It shall be important that the successful contractor can demonstrate that they have sufficient capacity and the specific experience in delivering the required service to fully meet all the requirements.
This contract will be awarded for a period of seven (7) years, with no option to extend, in line with the maximum contract period allowed to be awarded under the Crown Commercial Services (CCS) Framework RM1689 - Pan Government Document Storage and Related Services ( also known as Records Management ).
This contract will be awarded through a mini-competition exercise under; Lot 3, of this Framework.
