The brief

Solihull Council currently commissions a sensory service to provide a range of different levels of intervention, according to need, for adults in Solihull who have sensory impairments.

This includes people who are Deaf, Deafened, Hard of Hearing, Blind, Visually Impaired or who have Dual Sensory loss, with the service having five core elements as follows: • Specialist information, advice and guidance • To undertake assessments and provide appropriate specialist equipment; this includes provision of minor aids and adaptations and follow up review where needed • Reablement activities such as mobility training, independent living skills, communications skills and training to carers or personal assistants as appropriate to support independent living. • Carry out statutory Adult Social Care assessments, support planning and reviews - for individuals who are deaf, deafened, hard of hearing and dual sensory loss. • Maintaining the Blind and Partially Sighted Register to ensure that the guidance related to the Care Act 2014 and the Care and Support (registers) Regulations 2014 is adhered to with consideration that registration is voluntary, and contact should be made within two weeks of receiving the Certificate of Vision Impairment (CVI) to offer registration.

The Council wants to engage with the market to support the shaping of the adults Sensory Service model before progressing to retender this service.
