The brief

Submit a full timescale matrix of works showing dates & lengths of visits and how you propose to carry out the works as per Appendix 5.

Grass Cutting Amenity Grass • This term applies to grass areas on the sites listed on page 8 excluding any specific areas' which relate to sports.

It includes the surrounds of buildings, either at the side of driveways, paths, car parks and other hard surface areas. • The grass in these areas will be cut to the frequencies detailed below, therefore keeping the areas in a tidy and presentable condition.

A cylinder or rotary mower should be used with all cuttings being distributed evenly over the existing grass sward or collected and removed from site and any worn areas will be reseeded as required or requested. • All areas of grass at the base of buildings, hedgerows, fences, along pavements and other obstacles such as trees will also be cut. • All cuttings will be kept from any hard surface and the contractors will ensure that the areas to be cut are free from any dangerous materials such as cans, bottles, stones and other debris. • Cutting will commence on week 11 of the year and conclude in week 45.

Cutting will take place every fortnight with an optimum number of 18 cuts. • Amenity grass 30-75mm (summer), 26-60mm (winter during play) Edging All grass edges abutting shrub beds, borders and hard surface areas: • Will be edged once a month between weeks 11 and 39.

Any overhanging grass will be cut back and all cuttings racked back onto the existing sward. • Will be an optimum number of 8 visits as these may be affected by weather conditions.

Leaf Clearance Between weeks 43 and 52 during leaf fall, leaves will be removed from all areas and taken from all sites (weekly).   Weed Control The contractor shall prevent any infestation of weeds to all hard standing areas.

Only approved chemicals shall be used, data sheets will be required for any chemicals used as part of this contract.

Only qualified and certified staff to apply weed killing chemicals.

Copies of certificates will be requested of award of contract.

Shrub Bed & Rose Bed Maintenance Specific beds to be designated by Institute Estates Department during pre- contract site visit.

All beds to be maintained in current condition unless works specified to change.

Weeding & Pruning back • On a monthly basis between weeks 14 and 34, all beds will be visited and all weed and litter content removed and taken from the site. • Any overhanging branches that may affect doorways, pathways, car parks, windows and other hard surfaces will be pruned back (minimum lower level of headroom 2m) using good horticultural practice. • Prunings will be removed from all sites. • There will be an optimum number of 6 visits, as they may be affected by weather conditions.

General Pruning • Digging over the beds and levelling with the pruning of shrubs will take place during week 45 to week 1. • Pruning should reduce plant size generally by 10% but should be heavily prune
