The brief

The Keys Federation Academy Trust / Community First Academy Trust (known as the Partnership) is intending to establish a new catering contract to commence in September 2016.

The proposed contract will be for the delivery of a hot lunchtime meal service for 5 primary schools located within the Wigan area: 3366 (DfES Number) St.

Peter's CE Hindley - Kildare Street, Hindley, Wigan WN2 3HY 3364 (DfES Number) Hindley Green St John’s CE Junior and Infants – Atherton Road, Hindley Green, Wigan WN2 4SD 2032 (DfES Number) Hindley Green Community Primary – Thomas Street, Hindley Green, Wigan WN2 4SS 3360 (DfES Number) St.

John's CE Primary – Simpkin Street, Abram, Wigan WN2 5QE 3436 (DfES Number) Platt Bridge Community School – Rivington Avenue, Platt Bridge, Wigan WN2 5NG The schools are keen to promote local source and sustainability and it is expected that mainly fresh vegetables will be used and mainly British products; but the schools realise that local sourcing and organic products could be difficult to fund.

It is essential that the menus comply with the Government food and nutritional standards.

The schools will also require involvement from the successful contractor in curriculum activities, such as possible grow ‘clubs’ and participation in cookery clubs and PTA events.

The schools see that the midday meals service will be part of a whole school approach to their healthier school programme.
