The brief

The University of Southampton is home to the Research Software Engineer Network (RSEN), which is funded via the EPSRC.

The RSEN was formed in January 2016 to support Research Software Engineer activities in the UK.

Thanks to this network grant and the work of the Software Sustainability Institute, the UK has led the world in recognising the importance of Research Software Engineering.

The University of Southampton along with the RSEN have jointly delivered two successful conferences in 2016 and 2017 with just over 200 delegates attending at each conference.

The conference has built an international reputation with sponsors and delegates attending from 14 different countries.

The past conferences have attracted sponsorship from Microsoft, Intel, CANARIE, Nvidia, Lenovo, the University of Manchester, University of Edinburgh, Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton and the STFC.

The conference venue should have a proven track record in hosting successful, professional conferences.

It should assist in further cementing the UK's position as the global champion of RSEs.

The location of the conference should be reachable by reliable public transport within easy reach of Birmingham and London.
