The brief

Dorset County Council is setting up a framework for use by schools and academies in Dorset (including Bournemouth and Poole) to provide delivered in primary school meals.

Kitchen facilities were removed from schools in the 1980s - therefore there are no prime cook facilities.

Over the last ten years infrastructure has been put into schools to enable a delivered in cook chill method of service or a delivered in hot service - there are some schools which have no washing up facilities and so there is a requirement for the meal provider to provide a washing up service at the central kitchen.

Meals must be produced at premises in Dorset - and providers must have an office in Dorset from where the service will be managed from, the total production capacity of the facility must be at least 1,000 meals per day.

Menus must be a minimum of a three week cycle (which is changed termly) and must be compliant with the School Food Standards.
