Northern Ireland Railways (NIR) require independent vehicle condition inspections and reports for Passenger Carrying Traction and Rolling Stock and Infrastructure Plant.

Every Northern Ireland Railways passenger carrying traction and rolling stock vehicle and self-propelled on track plant will receive a detailed vehicle condition inspection once a year, at a NI Railways Maintenance facility.

Identified Railway Preservation of Ireland (RPSI) Preserved Steam Locomotives and Preserved Passenger carriages to receive a detailed vehicle condition inspection once a year at RPSI facility in Whitehead.
