The brief

Brighton & Hove City Council (The Council) are seeking a principle contractor through an over threshold open procurement activity to restore the first phase of Brighton's 865mtr long Madeira Terrace.

The aim is also to re- instate the social function of the Terrace as a 'linear stadium' for viewing events held on Madeira Drive.

Located between Royal Crescent steps in the west and Concorde 2 (Madeira Terrace Shelter Hall) in the east key principles of the restoration include: • Conservation/repair/replacement of original cast iron features • Green wall conservation/enhancement • Enhanced landscaping & biodiversity at deck level • A new double capacity lift at Royal Crescent steps • A new lift and stair between deck and Madeira Drive (close to Madeira Terrace Shelter Hall aka Concorde 2 music venue) • Refurbishment and modernisation of existing Madeira Terrace Shelter Hall lift to enable general public operation and year-round use • Pop up facilities to support diverse use of space for events and temporary activity • Wholesale deck replacement • Circular Economy principles in material use/construction. • Zero carbon energy generation (solar powered lighting etc) • Water harvesting technologies where feasible (raingardens/rainwater storage/grey water storage/use) • Climate change mitigation/adaptation features
