The brief

Tendering for a contractor for the provision of constructing the Main Building as part of the Destination Hillend project.

The multi-faceted building will be predominately excavated into a steeped hillside (incl rock excavation) with retaining walls and structures throughout.

The Main Building contract will include hard and soft landscaping within the vicinity and upper site of the building, demolition of existing structures, remodelling of the car park and loop road, as well as the creation of a staff car park.

The main building (3381 sqm (NIA)) will comprise of a main foyer for all hillside activities, reception and staff areas, retail units, a café area, children’s party rooms, a large soft play and climbing area, as well as communal areas, staircases, W/C’s and service ducts.

The building will be constructed from a steel frame, cladding material, concrete foundations, and triple glazed windows and a green roof, targeting net zero carbon.

The building aims to blend into the landscape by following the geometry of the hillside through the incorporation of natural roof edges, gradients and materials.

Current budget construction cost is circa 16m Proposed contract is SBCC Design & Build 2016 with amendments that requires a design and build contractor to take a RIBA 3 design with a novated design team (Architect, C&S Engineers and MEP Engineers) to completion.
