The brief

The Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB) requires the supply of five (5) 1500mm Port Buoys to be held in stock at the Oban Depot in order to support the ongoing maintenance, replacement, and emergency deployment of navigational aids in the Oban Bay area and surrounding waters.

These buoys are a critical component of the NLB’s statutory duty to provide marine aids to navigation for the safety of all mariners in Scottish and Isle of Man waters.

Oban Bay is a busy and strategically important area for commercial shipping, fishing vessels, ferries, and recreational craft.

Maintaining accurate and reliable buoyage in this area is essential to ensure the safe and efficient movement of vessels, reduce the risk of groundings or collisions, and protect sensitive marine environments.

Having a stock of 1500mm Port Buoys on hand allows NLB to respond quickly to unplanned events such as buoy damage, loss, or the need to establish temporary marks for marine works or changing conditions.

The 1500mm model is chosen specifically for its durability, conformity with IALA standards, and suitability for the dynamic marine environment of Oban Bay.

This procurement will ensure continuity of service and support NLB’s commitment to maritime safety, operational resilience, and environmental stewardship in one of Scotland’s key marine locations.
