Background to the requirement: The purpose of this procurement exercise is to appoint a main contractor for works to the hospital’s chimneys funded by NHS Estates Safety Funding 2025/26.
The chimneys in question, constructed around 1988, are approximately 38 meters tall from main plant room level and made of mild steel.
Externally they are located within an internal courtyard of the hospital (no vehicular access) which is approx.
7.5m above the main plant room level.
Customer Objective / Scope & Specifics: Following an appraisal and optioneering studies carried out by engineering consultants Mott MacDonald, the Authority is seeking to dismantle one of the steel chimney stacks and to carry out works as described as follows: • Install temporary boiler and generator • Switch off all main plant • Redirection of the generator flues • Removal of eastern Chimney (Stack 1) • Subsequent weatherproofing of chimney void to plant room roof • Reenergise main plant; CHP and Boiler 3 to remain isolated • Remove temporary boiler and generator plant The site is located at Salisbury District Hospital, Odstock Road, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP2 8BJ.
