The brief

HSE have a requirement to replace life expired LV electrical infrastructure within buildings 112 and 113 to ensure continuity of service for both its current and future explosives/energetic materials research programmes utilising these facilities.

Additional works are required to provide a separate supply to each building, as they are currently daisy chained.

This is to include the replacement of switchgear within the nearby substation housed in Building 116.

Refurbishing the buildings' electrical infrastructure will allow Science Division to continue further research on current HSE research projects, while upgrades to switchgear will futureproof this area of site against changing requirement as new and emerging threats develop requiring research.

Delivery of this project will support the HSE Inspectorate, via an increased understanding during incident investigations and research work into new explosive manufacturing technologies.
