The brief

Given the recent focus on the employability agenda and earnings of university graduates in the UK, there is a need to explore the employability initiatives offered by Liverpool Business School (LBS) at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU).

Industry placements and internships aim to improve students' job readiness and provide students with the necessary work skills to secure graduate roles in the future.

LBS at LJMU is keen to support and encourage industry placements and internships at undergraduate level as they are often linked to a variety of positive outcomes for students.

This includes the following: • Skill development. • Improvements in academic attainment. • Career understanding and development. • Employer networking.

These positive student outcomes have contributed to making university placements and internships increasingly competitive among the undergraduate population and therefore, placement/internship providers have developed recruitment strategies that aid the recruitment process and allow students to demonstrate a range of skills and abilities that align to a placement providers' needs and expectations.

An increasingly common way of doing this is through an employer assessment centre.

LBS would also like to see employers attend the assessment Centre, providing networking and job-seeking opportunities that bring a wider value to students attending the Centre Day
